Fearing it Will End the World

The world is made up of many different kinds of people that subscribe to many different points of view. Some people prefer to believe in science so they will usually accept the theory of evolution as fact. Others prefer to put their belief in the Bible and they believe that man was put here by God and that evolution is not the way things happened at all. It doesn't matter what you believe as long as you believe in something because belief in something means that you have an opinion and your opinion is what drives you to action. Without an opinion you would just go through the motions of your day with no greater aspirations. Many people believe that technology is what will bring about the end of the world and those people will look to religion for answers rather than science. To most people technology is what causes your computer to work or allows your car to let you know when you left the hatchback door open but technology is much more than that. Technology is the practice of taking ideas and making them do more than what they are doing now to better serve the needs of the human race. If something was created using technology it was created because a human being needed something done to solve a problem. Many will argue that when technology is created to save the environment it is done for the good of the planet. The reality is that technology was created to solve the problem that man's years of neglect and abuse had caused. It was created out of man's guilt. But the machines that did the environmental damage are still being manufacturer so mankind continues this odd tug of war between need and conscience. The notion that technology in and of itself can take over the world is probably not accurate. Machines do what they are programmed to do and the technology that is available does not have the capacity to develop a purpose. Some technology can adapt to situations and learn how to do certain tasks but technology lacks the emotion needed to become motivated to take over the world so a situation like you may have seen in any movie where machines take over the world on their own is not likely to happen any time soon. However that does not mean that technology cannot be dangerous. Nuclear technology in the wrong hands can be developed into weapons that could eliminate all life on the planet in an instant. That kind of technology is deadly and dangerous and it is that kind of technology that mankind needs to keep under control or else the consequences could be disastrous. People going about their everyday lives can usually take technology for granted. When people hear that a third world country is developing new technology then we always assume it is for the greater good. Technology has a good side and a bad side and if it is not monitored then the bad side could cause problems for generations to come.
